I was fortunate enough to see Johnny play in 2005 in Edinburgh at 'The outhouse'. This man is incredibly talented and very passionate about his music which is obvious when you see him. The new ep is freakin amazing... Hope to hear it more on the J's.... kara jane 13 Dec, 2012

This is a world class offering from Johnny Mac. With each listen, and there's been a few now, the song gains strength and meaning. It builds into an anthem, a rock gem with meaningful lyrics, engineered by a true master and dedicated student of his craft. The sky is the limit Johnny, reach up and grab it. Tex Perkins

An Australian singer-songwriter, Tex Perkins from Darwin, Australia is today's Eazy Entertainment's Artist of the Week. Born as Gregory Stephen Perkins on the 28th of December 1964. Before moving to Sydney in 1982, Tex Perkins started his musical career in Brisbane outfit Tex Deadly and the Dum-Dums. The band garnered considerable attention in Sydney independent music scene and also touring Melbourne. The departure of their guitarist Mark Halstead ended the band. Salamander Jim was formed by Tex Perkins with Kim Salmon from The Scientist and Richard Ploog from The Church. Due to touring commitments for Ploog & Salmon, Perkins formed a different line up with Stu Spasm, Lachlan McLeod and Martin Bland. In 1985 this line-up recorded and released their only record, an EP titled Lorne Greene Shares His Precious Fluids on Red Eye Records.

Tex Perkins joined several groups after Salamander Jim. His latest supergroup is The Ape. "The Ape is the album I was born to make. It is the album that Richie - the president of the Tex Perkins fan club -has been waiting for. It is an album bursting with swing and grunt, and is easily the best thing I have ever done, or ever will do." - Tex Perkins.

The Ape features Raul Sanchez (Magic Dirt, River of Snakes, Midnight Woolf) on guitar; Gus Agars (The Vandas, The Gin Club, Gentlemen of Fortune) on drums; Pat Bourke (Ladyboyz, Gentlemen of Fortune) on bass and piano; and “the artist formally known as Tex Perkins” on vocals and guitar.

Here’s the first single from Tex Perkins’ new “supergroup” The Ape. The sexy slow-burner ‘Crawl Back’, with falsetto vocals and slinky wah, is lifted from the band’s debut album.

On the back of their chunky debut single - Crawl Back, The Ape's marvelous self titled debut album was out October 4th 2013. Exiled Spanish crime boss riff legend Raul Sanchez (Magic Dirt) on guitar; skin slamming, boy wonder Gus Agars (The Dark Horses) on drums and vocals; style king Pat Bourke on bass and piano; and the Arsehole ... sorry, the artist formally known as Tex Perkins on vocals and guitar...The Ape. Joined by special guests.

"A little tough, a little boozy, and a whole lot of balls. The rest of the set was a showcase of the tracks that will come from the album. Judging by the songs we heard tonight, it is bound to be a cracker of an album."

Catch Tex Perkins and The Ape this 11th of January 2014 at The Governor Hindmarsh Hotel 7:30 pm, Saturday.
