Young and determined Dylan Joel is definitely a star to watch out for in the hip hop industry. Originated from Melbourne, VIC, this amazing kid won the “Pyramid Rock” competition of Triple J Unearthed last 28th of November 2010, when he was just starting his career. There were a bunch of amazing acts from all over Australia, but there was only 1 star that shined forth, Dylan Joel. No doubt, this 21 year old kid deserves to be the Eazy Entertainment’s Artist of the Week.
In an interview with Triple J Unearthed, Dylan Joel was asked about his upcoming shows on New Year’s eve (2011). “You’re the winner of our Pyramid Rock competition and will be opening the main stage on New Years Eve – what can Pyramid Rock punters expect from the Dylan Joel live show?” Yeah, such an insane opportunity. So stoked to be rocking Pyramid this year. Never expected to be playing a show like this so early on in my career. Was always one of those ‘dream to play’ kind of gigs. – So my plan is to get a little creative on this set. Not every day you get to play such a sweet show, so we’re planning on having some fun with it. New tracks, old tracks, few covers. I have 3 homes that back me up in my live shows, rocking live bass, drums and vinyls – So hopefully we’ll be bringing a mad festival vibe to our set! Definitely not afraid to have a boogie. So expect some real funky, bumpin‘ tracks!
In an interview with YouthCentral, Dylan Joel was asked where did his interest in music start? So my first introduction to hip-hop was actually from a real dope opportunity I had back in 2007. I was a 15-year-old standard kid that was lucky enough to be asked to host a stage show and the headline act happened to be the big lads Bliss N Eso. So I had the privilege of meeting them backstage and getting a behind-the-scenes insight into what hip-hop was all about. From there, my taste in hip-hop expanded internationally and then like all rappers I began speaking my mind through pen and paper. Then BOOM! Instant rapper (sort of…).
If there’s one thing that’s clear about Dylan Joel, it’s his enthusiasm and absolute passion for what he does. Supporting the up-and-comers in hip-hop, Dylan is someone who’s starting to solidify his position in the underground Australian music scene.
